Meditation Verse

Scripture.  Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.  2 Corinthians 7:1  KJV

The promises of God are mentioned in the previous verse.

The Lord Almighty says that He will be a Father to us and we shall be His sons and daughters.

He is Pure and Holy.

To be His son or daughter, we too must be pure and holy.

His Blood covers our sin, but we must embark on a journey of cleansing the habitual sin from our life.

Many believers are able to lay everything down immediately they become saved and never wander astray.

Many more, struggle with a sinful lifestyle because of the depth of their sin and how it was entangled in their life when they came to Jesus.

The demons hanging on do not want to leave and they put up a battle and try to lead the host back to sin so they can continue residence.

But, God says we are to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of flesh and spirit.

Sinful thinking of other "ways" to God, or belief in anything other than Jesus is filthiness of mind as much as unclean thoughts about lying, cheating, stealing, adultery and sexual thoughts are.

Not trying (with the Spirit's help), to rid ourselves of these sinful ways will keep us from all God has for us.

It is commonly called "backsliding".

Keep the "fear of God" foremost in your mind in order to slay the demons of darkness that scramble to overpower you.

Remember, "Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world."  1 John 4:4

Prayer
Lord, thank You for these words of Life.  Help me to overcome all the sin that has invaded my flesh and spirit.  Keep me steady on Your path. I want to be an overcomer not a backslider.  Amen.
