Scripture -Jesus's Birth

Old testament

Isaiah 53:1-12

To whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

"For He grew up before Him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; He had no form or comeliness that we should look at Him, and no beauty that we should desire Him.

He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces. He was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with His stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.

By oppression and judgment He was taken away; and as for His generation, who considered that He was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people?

And they made His grave with the wicked and with a rich man in His death, although He had done no violence, and there was no deceit in His mouth.

Yet it was the will of the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief; when He makes Himself an Offering for sin, He shall see His offspring, He shall prolong His days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in His hand;

He shall see the fruit of the travail of His soul and be satisfied; by His knowledge shall the Righteous One, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous; and He shall bear their iniquities.

Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He poured out His soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."

Isaiah 9:6-7

"For a child has been born for us, a Son given to us; authority rests upon His shoulders; and He is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and His kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with Justice and with Righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this."

Micah 5:2

"But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me One who is to rule in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days."

Zechariah 9:9

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your King comes to you; triumphant and victorious is He, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

Isaiah 52:13-15

"See, my servant shall prosper; He shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high.

Just as there were many who were astonished at Him - so marred was His appearance, beyond human semblance, and His form beyond that of mortals - so He shall startle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of Him; for that which had not been told them they shall see, and that which they had not heard they shall contemplate."

New testament

Luke 1:26-38

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin`s name was Mary.

And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David:

And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

For with God nothing shall be impossible.

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

Matthew 1:18-25

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.

Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

Friend, God has given us these accounts so we may know that He is the Father of Jesus.

God shows us that He had a Plan.

God explains how He carried out the Plan without satan knowing. Born of a virgin to keep the Holiness Pure. Born lowly without all the riches of Heaven to show man how to live blameless. Born into the line of a King (David) A man after God's Own Heart, because He is a King. Born with ordinary looks, not what satan was used to having seen in the Kingdom - the Light was contained for a season and a Purpose.

For 30 years Jesus grew and was not noticed by satan.

His family were witness to healings and miracles - His mother knew what He could do and at the wedding feast He performed His first public miracle, turning water into wine at her request.

When He started His Ministry on earth at 30 years, satan must have been quite surprised! But, he lost no time in trying to tempt Him to give up His earthly ministry.

We find that God was Pure in His Plan.

He didn't bring a rock star who millions would follow because of talent, good looks and moves.

He didn't bring us someone like the great heroes we see portrayed in movies today, the Batmans, Supermans and so on.

Our Saviour didn't need to commit any violence at all.

Yet torturous violence was committed against Him, an innocent.

He wasn't wealthy so no one could desire to know him for his riches and possessions. Yet He knew He had the wealth of Heaven at His fingertips should He ask for it and died so we may have the same according to God's Will for us.

He wasn't good looking by man's terms.

What He did have was Love and compassion for us.

He understood us and knew our need for Knowledge and a Saviour. He knows how satan and his army of followers have tempted us, abused us, killed and destroyed our souls.

But his birth brought a new era.

And that is why believers rejoice and set a day aside to celebrate His birth.
