Meditation

Scripture.  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.  Hebrews 12:1  KJV

What an interesting scripture!  God wants us to know that we are compassed about with a great cloud of witnesses!

Witnesses imply judgment.  The Bible emphatically lets us know that there will be judgment of every soul.

Some of these witnesses will accuse us at our judgment.  Some to try to prove their case that others committed the same sin, that God's Law was too strict a standard.

But God sent His Son for this very purpose.  The Law was set to show how high the standard is.  We cannot attain it, having been infected with sin.  We can strive for it and in the striving, gain spiritual ground. God does recommend doing this with an attitude of love for Him, but we should not be overcome with the doing of works without selfless love for the other person.  It's called a servant's heart.

God calls us to run with patience on the spiritual path He has set before us.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for this Word.  Help me to be an overcomer of the sin in my life and live so openly selfless that Your Name would be glorified for any good work I could perform in Your name. And, thank You for the Blood of Jesus that covers my sin so that when I stand before You and am accused by evil, I am found blameless.  Amen.
