Unrealistic Expectations

Friend, unrealistic expectations of how we think life should treat us, will bring us down all the time.

Many suffer depression from having unrealistic expectations. When things don't go the way they have imagined they should, people blame God. Things still don't get any better, so they blame Him more, until everything is God's fault.

And you know what? Satan is sitting on the sidelines laughing so hard at us when we do that, because it is he and his demons who have placed those imaginations before us. He is the great tempter of the brethren of God. One of his battle plans is to tempt us all day, everyday. No let up!

But if we use the Word of God, and listen to what the Spirit is saying to us, we will know deep within our heart and mind, not to indulge in satan's temptations that always lead to deep rooted sin in our lives, that only God can help us with.

Yes, it can be hard to deny ourselves, because maybe we are not fully convinced that what we want to do is sinful. Or maybe that sickness or malady is a tremendous burden and our expectation is that we should not have it. Perhaps we are extremely honest and good to others yet something has befallen us and we face great loss or failure, that we think we should not have to bear.

But when we listen to God, and know that He is Good and full of Truth, we will have no problem saying, "Yes, Lord," even, "Thank You, Lord."

Some of us get angry, hateful and vengeful when our unrealistic expectations do not come to fruition.

Some may be violent towards others, because most of the dreams, hopes and wants they do not receive, yet they are not aware they are unrealistic expectations and God is keeping them from falling into sin, because there may be a call on that life; or parents grandparents and friends may have prayed for their Salvation.

We must ask ourselves "Am I being unrealistic in this expectation?"

Is my desire for "this or "that" in line with God's Word?

If it goes against anything in God's Word, then yes it is unrealistic.

God cannot grant you something He has said is sinful.

Here is a list of the Ten Commandments that were given to Moses.

"You shall have no other gods before Me,"

"you shall not make for yourself a carved image,"

"you shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain,"

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy,"

"Honor your father and your mother,"

"You shall not murder,"

"You shall not commit adultery,"

"You shall not steal,"

"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor"

"You shall not covet anything that is your neighbor's."

Test every thought against the Law of the Ten Commandments.

Be conformed by renewing your mind to stand in line with God's Law, and you will begin to see a change, as you grow in Wisdom and begin expecting only what God wills for you.

God wants to fill us with His Peace, Love and Truth. He wants to give us strength and courage to overcome sin.

We also find in The Holy Bible,  many other Words of guidance, warnings for our soul, and descriptions of scenarios and stories that tell us how to conduct ourselves in a Godly way, in order to walk the Path of Righteousness that leads to Freedom in the afterlife.

By following God's Word and living a Godly life here on earth, we will never have unrealistic expectations that lead to all kinds of mental anguish.

God says to His children (believers and those considering/examining/cautiously discerning) ...

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgement, thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righeousness is of Me, saith the Lord. Isaiah 54:17

As a believer in Christ, the above Bible Verse is a great comfort.

We do not need to have expectations of any kind. We just need to stay walking with God and listening to the Spirit, reading The Word, and we will know that moving forward we will have a clear path, because God will stop any weapon that is formed against us, from hurting us.

When in fact something does happen we will know that God has allowed this particular situation, and we have a chance to grow in Knowledge and Wisdom as we journey through the sticky and rough patches of life.

Go to the Cross with your unrealistic expectations and place them, as you discover them, at the foot of the Cross and walk away.

Be free of worry and doubt. Just walk in His Holiness
