Call Upon Jesus

"And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me." Mark 10:47 KJV

A blind man is given sight, because of his faith.

In the Old Testament days the people knew a Messiah was coming some time in the future. All the people of Jewish faith believed they were prepared for His imminent arrival. They hoped they would see Him in their lifetime, but the years came and went. They were taught from the Holy Scriptures; the first five books of the Old Testament that The Messiah would come from the line of King David.

The Book of Disciple Mark in the New Testament has the following passages in Chapter 10 starting with Verse 46.

And they came to Jericho: and as He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

47And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

48And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

49And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; He calleth thee.

50And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.

51And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

52And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

Disciple Mark was with Jesus and writes his eyewitness account where we are able to get a picture of a moment in Jesus's ministry, as He walked from village to village.

What made Jesus stop in His tracks and ask for this man to be brought to Him?

It was the tone and content of what the blindman cried out!

He called upon Jesus!

He named Jesus as being from the house of David which was a Truth known only from having knowledge of the Holy Scriptures.

He knew He was therefore The Son of God and would have heard of the miracles in people's lives from the word of mouth accounts.

He knew he could receive healing from The Son of God; The Messiah!

He believed.

He had faith.

He asked for Mercy!

And, he received his sight because of these things.

A believer in Jesus, The Son of God can call upon Him and receive Mercy even today.
